Goumenissa received its PDO status in 1979. The two main local varieties Xinomavro and Negoska are cultivated throughout the region’s 200 hectares that cover the eastern slopes of Mount Paiko. The red V.Q.P.R.D. Goumenissa contains more than 20% Negoska and its alcoholic strength is at least 11.5% vol. With wines maturing in oak barrels for a year or more they offer full body and distinct aromas.
