PDO Patras received its PDO status in 1972. It is the largest Greek PDO zone today and is located at the northeastern and central part of the district of Achaia in Peloponnisos. It mainly covers the areas of Aegira, Aegio, Akrata, Diakopto, Dymi, Erineos, Kalavryta, Patras, Rio, Tritaia, Farres, Olenia, Kalentzi and Leontio. Roditis, one of the most cultivated varieties in Greece today, is the main zone variety and PDO Patras wines are required to be Roditis 100%. They are dry, medium-dry and medium-sweet white wines.
