Fine Assyrtiko by Anatolikos Vineyards is without a doubt a great fine wine that has received many distinctions abroad and although it comes from Avdira Thrace, at the far north of Greece, it can be easily compared with the best wines of Santorini. Fermentation is always with indigenous yeasts and the must remains for 5 months in French barrels in its fine lees. The final product has perfect complexity and is extremely balanced with oak, butter vanilla and honey coming from the barrel being fully complemented with an exciting universe of citrus aromas, apricot and peach.

This unusual blend of 10% Assyrtiko and 90% Vidiano, which comes from a winery near Mount Olympus is very well done and although Vidiano is a Cretan variety it is interesting to see new expressions coming from other parts of Greece. The must remains for 2 months with its fine lees and the result is an attractive wine, with perfect complexity, delicate aromas and well balanced structure.

They chose to cultivate the two varieties in non irrigated vineyards with sandy soil and granite near Avdira, Xanthi. After extraction the must remained with the skins for 9 months in amphoras with the use of indigenous yeasts. and is bottled without using sulphites or filtration. Natural Orange 2019 is a wine of amazing complexity and unique personality.

Thomas Ligas and his daughter Melisanthi are strong believers of natural vinification and zero interventions in the vineyard. They use no sulphites or filtering, they insist on indigenous yeasts and invest in permaculture, that is in full cycle cultivation which sees the land as a friend rather than an enemy ensuring that t production and sustainability go hand in hand. The limited production of only 2000 bottles makes it a little harder to try Assyrtiko barrique, which means you need to make your move right away.

Kapnistos 2021. Dalamaras Winery

A classic story told in a new way

[product_subtitle] Kapnistos by Dalamaras winery is a blend of Malagouzia and Assyrtiko but with a new twist. Its innovative smoky character has been introduced by Kostis Dalamaras, a very promising young wine maker who is now taking over the management of the winery, which has a history of 180 years. The blend remains in oak barrels for 12 months during which according to a special fermentation technique barrels are not fully filled in order to allow the must to receive more oxygen that will further improve the maturation process. Since the production is limited it is not always the bottles you want if you do not order on time.
