About the winery
Estate Argyros is located at the island of Santorini where some of the best Greek wines come from. Founded in 1903 by Georgios Argyros the estate counts almost 120 years of winemaking history. His son Mathew Argyros took over in 1950 and bought more land with the vineyards reaching 15 acres, while later Yiannis Argyros, son of Mathew who got involved with the winery in 1974, expanded the vineyards to a serious 65 acres. Cultivation of the vines is done with the traditional basket approach used all over Santorini in order to protect the vines from the winds that are famous for their strength throughout the year. The volcanic soil is a blessing for the estates wines, especially for Assyrtiko that comes with fantastic mineral crispiness. The Assyrtiko Argyros, which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, is one of the most classic expressions of the terroir and is undoubtedly an exceptional wine. The estate produces some of the most iconic wines of Santorini. The dry wines mainly come from local indigenous varieties Assyrtiko, Athiri and Aidani while the 3 desert Vinsanto wines come from grapes that have been dried outdoors, in the sun. The estate has numerous distinctions from worldwide competitions while exports receive a substantial part of the production each year.
