About the winery
Aivalis winery is located near the village of Petri in Nemea, the largest PDO zone in Greece and land of the Agiorgitiko variety. Run by Christos Aivalis, an amazing perfectionist and passionate 5th generation wine maker, with an endless sense of humour, the winery has created some absolutely perfect wines that carry the dynamic personality of the owner. With full body, intense aromas, complexity and length these wines are really sophisticated and are not only expressions of a unique terroir but of man who wants to leave his mark on mankind through his wines. By never receiving irrigation the vines are forced to penetrate their roots deeper into the ground in search of nutrients and humidity which eventually leads to better quality grapes. With very low yields and a lot of hard work in the vineyard before vinification Aivalis Winery is totally dedicated to creating wines of exceptional character. Christos Aivalis today cultivates 4.5 hectares of privately owned land at Agios Sotiras, Varges, Kalyvia, Traganes and Gerakina at altitudes ranging from 250 to 600 metres above sea level. Harvests and vinifications are done separately for each vineyard in order to maintain the character of each terroir. Today Sotiris, son of Christos Aivalis , with studies in oenology at Burgundy, is already fully involved with the winery and is ready to bring a new experimental approach to winemaking that will surprise us all in the years to come.
