Thymiopoulos Oenos Estate is located in Trilofos Naoussa, at the north of Greece, not very far from the ancient School of Aristotle. Naoussa, which is one of the two major PDO regions for the Xinomavro grape variety, is cold in winter but not so hot in the summer offering ideal conditions for quality reds. Apostolos Thymiopoulos creates magic with great wines that have taken Xinomavro to new levels of excellence. He completed his winemaking studies at the Athens University and started experimenting with grapes from the family’s vineyards. His 2004 vintage created his first label Earth and Sky that was his passport for an amazing new range of wines that followed. With limited yields, handpicking of grapes, no irrigation in order to avoid increasing tannins and natural ways of pest control, such as turkeys and guinea, Thymiopoulos creates wines of a new standard that are always hand bottled, unfined and unfiltered. This truly artisanal approach offers unique wines that are becoming more and more popular in Greece and abroad. They are some of the best we have ever tasted.
