KIR-YIANNI Estate is located both in the areas of Naoussa and Amydeon, at the two sides of mount Vermion, in norfwestern Greece. Founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris, when he left the family winery to create his own estate, this is a place where experimentation and forward thinking have brought the art of winemaking to new frontiers. Today Stellios Boutaris son of Yiannis manages the winery with a new vision of excellence. Being a fifth generation winemaker he brings in years of family knowledge and tradition in winemaking. In Naoussa the vineyards are placed at an altitude of 280-300 meters and cover an area of 58 ha, 40 of which are planted.Every vineyard block is harvested and treated separately, in order to empower the distinct character of the terroir and each variety cultivated. The soil here is sandy clay to sandy clay loam. The varieties cultivated are: Xinomavro (50%), Syrah (15%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), while the rest of the area is planted with various experimental varieties. In Amydeon the privately owned vineyards are located at an altitude of 700 meters and cover an area of 16.5 ha, near the town of Ag. Panteleimonas in the core of the Amydeon PDO zone. Here the soil is sandy and poor, offering the possibility of producing wines with great aging potential and unique aromatic character. The varieties cultivated are some of the main international white varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Greek indigenous ones namely: Roditis, Assyrtiko, Malagouzia and Malvasia aromatica.
