Which are the main Greek wine regions?

As you commence your education about Greek wines a good point to start is the realization that Greece is a land with amazingly diverse terrain. Although it is surrounded with sea and it possesses a great number of beautiful islands it is also a land of scenic mountains with an altitude exceeding 1000m. Its vineyards, which are among the oldest in the world, have been producing wines for thousands of years. They are found at the slopes of snow covered mountains, at sea level not far from the shore, overlooking lakes or at the top of picturesque hills, creating a very interesting mosaic of terroirs with different characteristics in terms of soil, altitude and climate. Greek wine production is divided in 6 main regions with similar climate.
